Weekend Foodie
A fun weekend celebrating good food. Growing one's own food is fantastic and gives you the opportunity to eat foods that just can't be bought. Join us for a foodie weekend, harvesting and cooking a range of foods that just can't be bought, looking at how food can be grown, learning how to make wassail, nutritious easy bread, bespoke sausages, fresh pasta and hunt for truffles and celebrate it all with a gourmet winter feast! |
Rough schedule:
Arrive Friday evening after dinner (there are some great local restaurants).
Join us for supper, meet the others and settle in.
Saturday
Feed the cows and pigs and chickens and ducks and see how the animals are integrated into our sustainable block.
Tour the orchard and vegetable garden discussing how it works (and doesn't) and harvest the raw produce for lunch and dinner.
After a home-grown organic (as all our meals are) lunch get cooking!
First you'll also make your own batch of gourmet sausages ready for breakfast tomorrow.
Then we will warm a batch of wassail cider (think mulled wine with home-made Monty's Surprise (the health apple) cider), and then prepare a feast of winter treats using raw produce from the block, many of which aren't available commercially. Think guava jus, yakon, chokos, Jeruslam artichokes, yams, and other things not commonly sold but easily grown.
Learn how to make easy bread, fresh pasta, sugar-free jam and other handy kitchen tips. All recipes shared.
Healthy diets, growing nutrient-dense food, food storage, home-made teas... there will be lots of tasting, recipe sharing and foodie discussions.
Then we will light the fire and decorate the table to enjoy our efforts.
BYO extra alcoholic drinks if wanted - it's a party!
Sunday
Start with a hearty country brunch of home grown bacon, free range eggs and the gourmet sausages you made on Saturday, then meet Karen and her truffle dog to go on hunting in my truffiere. I haven't found one yet, but I am still hoping to unearth my first truffle. If we do, lunch will be (apparently) exceptional .
Mosey home after a late lunch, or stop off at a local coffee roaster, nearby boutique cheese factory or take a stroll to the clear Blue Springs.
Arrive Friday evening and stay until Sunday afternoon, sharing our lifestyle, talking and sharing ideas.
You will be provided home-grown organic food, shared accommodation, and be supplied with a booklet of notes (including recipes).
You will leave with some of your products (that you haven't eaten), a head buzzing full of ideas and
a wealth of tips and knowledge that you can do at home.
For groups of 5+ on demand .
If individually interested please contact us and we will try to schedule a date with others to make up a group.
Cost $300pp - $500 per couple
