Experience has taught me that good design takes into account both current and future requirements.    'If only I knew then what I know now' is too commonly said.  I can show you the results of different management techniques, have the experience to ask the right questions, and present suggestions so that your property will succeed on a practical level for your foreseeable needs.

I specialise in environmentally friendly, holistic systems integrating aspects of
​permaculture, organics, and natural farming to produce a range of nutrient-dense food.
 With good design this can be practical and visually appealing.   

On-site  Consultation

I come to you and view your own piece of paradise.  We then talk about what you want, and ways to achieve this with your land.

Systems, stock, pasture, soil, trees, water systems, fencing, machinery,  gardens... whatever you have or dream of we will evaluate and discuss to ensure it is working at its maximum potential to achieve your desired goals.

We work together to create a vision of what your block could become,  then I make a prioritised  step by step plan on how to achieve this, provide a list of suggested tree varieties and sources,  suggestions on management and stock practices and notes on any resources you may benefit from.

​Personalised suggestions, ideas, opinions and referrals are all extended to make living with your land  productive and, most importantly of all, fun.

Mentoring

Tailored to ensure you learn exactly what you need to enable you to produce what you want from your land.

We discuss realistic targets that suit your lifestyle and land, and I  provide all the support you need to achieve them.
This can include as much or as little as you need in each area - from a phone discussion through to on-site tutoring of practical skills.  

This is about empowering you with the skills and the knowledge to make your land productive in the way you want.

Design and management
I'll do it for you

From a new bare block to revamping an existing infrastructure to suit your requirements, I can assist and support you as much as you require.
I can create an overall design for you to work towards, project manage construction, procure stock, establish garden beds, oversee planting or all of the above to get your land producing in a holsitic and healthy way as soon as possible.

Public speaking

I can provide an entertaining talk on the trials and tribulations of raising animals and discovering different foods, to an informative speech covering the scientific aspects affected by food growing and preparation.

I also raise awareness on psychological abuse in middle-class NZ - something I believe our social norms innocently encourages.

Workshops

I am a person who learns from seeing, asking questions, and having a go - and that is the format I use for my hands-on practical workshops.  They range from a day to a full weekend and can be tailored to suit your requirements.  Getting a group together and hosting a workshop is a lot of fun, gets the result on your property, and shares the knowledge with your network.
Subjects can be tailored to suit or cheduled workshop include:
  • Designing a bare block - for home orchard or an integrated lifestyle block with animal management systems​
  • Looking at the Good Life - an introductory course for those starting out covering a wide range of the aspects of sustainable living
  • Rejuvenating an old orchard
  • Grafting - making your own trees
  • Pruning and maintaining the home orchard
  • Making food - taking it from the paddock and preparing it for the plate.  Sausage making, cheesemaking, bread, preserving, and more
  • Animal husbandry - animal management (chickens, ducks, pigs, sheep, cows) and  how to kill and process 
  • Milking a house cow - raising foster calves, managing, milking, and processing the milk
  • Pasture and silage - regenerative pasture techniques, organic weed control and making your own small-scale silage
